for the Fourth

Two Hundred and Thirty years ago our founding fathers made a declaration that ought to have made permanent in our national character the notion that freedom is more important than safety. Today there will be those who will bask in the flag waving and use the words "freedom" and "liberty" as buzzwords. The implication, I guess, is that they are no longer anything more. Fuck those jerks. They may not ever get their just deserts, but with any luck they'll die knowing exactly how history will view them.

Anyways, for my money, there is only one song that really works on the fourth, and it isn't the National Anthem. Regrettably it's attached to a clumsy arrangement of images gathered from the internet intended to evoke feelings of patriotism that, quite frankly don't exist at all if you don't feel them while listening to this song. So enjoy and Happy Fourth of July

Rest in Peace Ray Charles

  1. WOOH TO DA HOOH! I AM FIRST! FUNKIFIED!

Glad to hear you are doing better my friend, and that this bout of pneumonia was not like your previous one! This bohemian sure has missed you!

Can't see the video I am afraid! I am banned from You Tube since my laptop crashed from a nasty virus which hubby suspects I got from You Tube so... *sigh* Bohemians do not like to be excluded from the party but oh well!

Happy 4th of July! Makes me ache for SF as we always had the Fillmore Street Jazz Festival then and it was one block over from our place! Good times! I WANT THEM BACK!

  3. Miz B: Just get your hands on "America the Beautiful" as sung by Ray Charles. The pictures don't really add much to it I don't think. Happy 4th!

JRomer: I just love the song. Happy Fourth!
