Bush is talking Iraq in Vietnam.
Halfway across the world, the irony is still too thick for me to breathe. I can hardly imagine what it's like over there.
It's the comfort of a lame duck presidency. The freedom to leave naked the undeniable proof that the last six years have been a hopeless, fucked-up joke that's only funny to billionaire CEOs who're making money off of other people's kids dying. And the only chance to turn this shit around is that the American people finally see it all for the sinister clusterfuck that it is. That we take a long, hard look at ourselves and decide, once and for all, that we are not, as the Good Doctor once said, "a nation of 220 million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns, and no qualms at all about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable." Because in the end it doesn't matter if our electorate has finally made the connection between realizing that the Republicain power base is made up of a bunch of twisted douchebags and voting for the other guys. What matters is that we learn from the mistake we made six years ago. And we've got two years to figure it out.
Oh and there is always hope... but how that works along with cynicism and distrust beats me... perhaps 'tis realism?

Cooper: Perhaps. That the dunce in the corner has the same vote as one with a functioning brain (which is quite different from a brain that merely can function) is the inescapable flaw in the system.
Let's hope "we" figure it out! They say there is always "hope"....
